New video for single Hope is Dead now on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBJamHbb5RQ Dublin based Sleep Thieves are Sorcha Brennan, Wayne Fahy and Keith Byrne. Formed in 2009 (with Derek Murphy in the original line up) the band recorded and released EP It was only a satellite that year to enthusiastic reviews. AU magazine described the band as “..purveyors of bleeping marvellous electro pop with sugar spun sentiments... The EP fizzes like a sherbert flying saucer” while Jim Carroll of The Ticket described the EP as "Four tracks which ooze well- judged portions of melodic menace, bleepy bliss, indie-pop shade, dashing synths and sweetly pitched vocals, it’s a humdinger of an opening statement". Debut album Heart Waves was recorded and mixed by Ciarán Bradshaw (Dark Room Notes, O Emperor, Miracle Bell) in Starling Studios, Dublin during the summer/autumn of 2010. The album builds on the bands previous use of dance beats, programmed bleeps and dirty synths but as State.ie’s Jen Gannon observed of their live show the band are now “Harder, fitter, faster, stronger..... irresistible, hip-shaking, (their sound) is the sweetest of kisses followed by the bloodiest of punches ". The Ticket awarded the band the accolade of gig of the week and top ten gig of the year for their headline show at Whelans, March 2010 describing them as “ … sparkling, swaggering electro-pop... Definitely worth staying up late for”. Heart Waves will be available to download from itunes, the band's bandcamp.com, and the usual online stores and physically from Tower Records and Rage Records Dublin. PRESS CUTTINGS The Ticket (Irish Times), December 31st 2010 Sleep Thieves, Whelans Headline in March 2010 selected by The Ticket as one of their top ten gigs of 2010, alongside Foals, Beirut, Blondie, Snoop Dog and Joanna Newsom. State.ie, Oct 10 – Hard Working Class Heroes live review “"Sleep Thieves offered a much needed wake up call to the evening’s proceedings. (Their show was) proof, if needed, of a band that just keeps getting better with every subtle evolution . Expect minds to be blown by a forthcoming album” Heinekenmusic.ie, June 10 (Alison Curtis –Today FM editorial) “I love Sorcha’s voice and feel their offerings are as strong as or stronger than the Crystal Castles, Ladytrons or Metrics of the world” State.ie, March 10 – Live review “Harder, fitter, faster, stronger, this new improved version of Sleep Thieves has the potential to make 2010 the year they become the sound of the crowd.” “ (Sleep Thieves) are not afraid to stare their audience in the face and demand that they dance and with music this melodic it would be rude not to reply with your feet. Its irresistible, hip-shaking, the sweetest of kisses followed by the bloodiest of punches “ The Ticket, Irish Times March 10 (Sleep Thieves as Gig of the Week) “ … sparkling, swaggering electro-pop... Definitely worth staying up late for” Panicdots.com – December 09 “If… YACHT, Air and Not Squares all jumped into a blender and got blended, this is the juice that it would create. You just gotta check these guys out.“ AU Magazine, December 09 “..purveyors of bleeping marvellous electro pop with sugar spun sentiments... The EP fizzes like a sherbet flying saucer” The Scene, Daily Star Sep 09 "Fans of Fight Like Apes and Grand Pocket Orchestra may have found the last in their holy trinity" The Ticket (Irish Times): Future Sounds by Jim Carroll – July 09 “(Sleep Thieves EP contains) ...four tracks which ooze well- judged portions of melodic menace, bleepy bliss, indie-pop shade, dashing synths and sweetly pitched vocals, it’s a humdinger of an opening statement. " Drop-D.ie EP review July 09 "Debut EP It Was Only A Satellite is a heady mix of synths, guitar riffs and lush vocal melodies...(Osumi) is a slice of electronic perfection...they have proven they have enough musical muscle and ingenuity to back up the fawning praise they have received to date" User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License and may also be available under the GNU FDL.
